Back in 2010, my second book was published. Truthfully, after my first book, I wasn’t sure I had another one in me. That first book was born out of one of the most crushing seasons of my life. To my surprise, the second book would also be forged in another refining fire. When our family weathered the 2008 recession, we lost everything—our home, our cars, our business. Walking through the painful and humiliating process of watching it all disappear, shame seemed to linger close by.

Then one day, the Holy Spirit whispered something that changed everything: “You are the resource.”

I didn’t have an audience. In writing songs, I couldn’t play an instrument. I knew nothing about song structure. What I did know was how to obey.
